We had some fun recently helping a client to successfully commission a FGD FlameSpec IR3 hydrogen flame detector (FLS-IR3-H2-HD) using our FGD FlameSpec hydrogen flame simulator.
The project is located at a facility with significant hydrogen fire hazard risks and the new flame detector will improve the safety onsite providing hydrogen flame detection coverage for some critical process equipment.
Along with the IR3 hydrogen flame detection technology, the project utilized the ethernet HD video camera output to implement the flame detector live coverage area monitoring into the site control room CCTV system to visualize any fire hazard events. The FGD IR3 hydrogen flame detector in this application has been specified with Near IR video so in the unlikely event of a hydrogen fire, the invisible to the human eye hydrogen fire will be displayed as a bright white fire using the innovative video filtering technology.
Operation staff can now see the live flame detector CCTV video streaming into the control room. If there is a hydrogen fire the FGD detector will activate the alarms and trips, and also the hydrogen flame with be announced and visualized on the CCTV monitors.
